Can't Stop Won't Stop

Wowza life and serving is getting busier and busier and I am not complaining!

This week was another fabulous week serving at Habitat for Humanity instead of just caulking I got to paint baseboards which was oh so great. There was only a small group who volunteered this week which is not normal for them but we got a lot done which was awesome. I got to work with this High School Senior who goes to cathedral catholic and is in a group that goes around and serves with non-profits, it was super fun getting to know her and working with her!

I started working in the Family History Center this week and realized that it is a lot easier than I though it was haha. Click some buttons, check some names, input some info, then bada bing bada boom you found a name.

I also started working in the Temple this week, I get to work on Thursday's and Saturdays and have loved every minute of it!

This weekend was also so great because we are gaining a new sister missionary. Sister Vargas! I got to go to the temple with her and go and hear her give her farewell talk which was so so good. She talked all about how her missionary purpose is to Serve like Christ served.

Lastly I got to attend 2 baptisms this weekend. The first was to a convert in the YSA ward named Les. The 2nd one I got to give a talk on baptism for. It was for a dear friends older sister. I am so grateful for seeing the light in both of their eyes and their faith and I am excited for Shea's and Les's future learning more in this gospel.

Quick spiritual thought from the good ole' Book of Alma. In chapter 5 it talks about what the people should do to gain salvation (which also applies to us) and verse 13 is a real good one. It talks about how the Nephites humbled themselves, put all their trust in God and were faithful until the end, talk about a MIGHTY change of heart for them that were struggling before. But I think we can all try to be like them and change our hearts in one way or another. We may already believe in a God but maybe we can change our hearts by being a little more compassionate to others or by not judging others or not by getting mad when someone cuts you off and you are late to an assignment (not that thats happened to me or anything 🙃) I just challenge you all to Change your heart someway for the better, and to open your hearts to find new ways God wants you to learn, serve and love!

Love you all!
Sister Owsley

Serve, Serve, Serve!

Hello!

So this is my first official week as a Service missionary and I absolutely love it. Although this week has been slow interviewing with non-profits and finishing my schedule, I am still so grateful for the time that I did have to put on my name tag and SERVE!

Last Friday I went with our sister Training leader to go and shadow her in Old Town where she serves. It was a very cool experience we were in the McCoy house and we just welcomed visitors answered questions (she did all that) and made sure everything was running smooth. And luckily it was until after our lunch break when we noticed that no one was coming in and when we looked outside there were a few police cars and someone was getting arrested but was also resisting arrest right on the front porch of the museum we were in so for the last 2 hours we got maybe 1 or 2 people coming  in. Although it was so fun talking and getting to know sister Fraser and getting advice from her, I decided to not serve there right now and to go and serve at some of the other places where I feel a little more engaged :)

On Sunday I went to the YSA ward that I will be "serving" in, and the thing that I was afraid would happen did. I walked 2 steps in the door and a member of the Bishopric greets me and introduces himself, right after he found out I was new he asked me to speak THE NEXT SUNDAY, haha I said no only because I am already speaking in another ward, but don't you worry he was quick to tell me that it is okay and I can just speak the week after that. So that will be the 3rd Sunday in a row I have to, I mean have gotten the wonderful opportunity to speak in sacrament meetings.

On Tuesday I finally got to go to my first official assignment! I'm serving out in Logan Heights building houses with Habitat for Humanity. And wow do I love it. I will be doing different things each time I go out to the site. This week I did caulking, and I did it to every door inside the house of 4 different houses. Needless to say my finger still tingles and can feel the wood and caulk haha, but it was super cool how they have built these 4 beautiful townhouses all through volunteers with minimal experience.

Wednesday I got to serve in a new way for my first time at jury duty not missionary related and not my favorite way to serve but yeah... enough said.

And today I got to help out up at Camp Wildwood at a Sports camp for Special Needs. It was such an amazing experience playing basketball with them, coloring with them and helping them out in the pool. They were all so much fun to hang out with and they all have some mad basketball skills.

This week I am just so grateful for the Power of Prayer. Being able to talk to my Heavenly Father, express my questions and give thanks to him for every opportunity he has provided me with has been such a blessing to me. I am so grateful to be learning that everything happens for a reason, and I am even more grateful to be able to serve my Heavenly Father as I serve the people in my own community.

Love you all,
Sister Owsley
